Un des premiers films issus de la « Kyiv school of scientific film » fait l’état des avancées de la physique moderne en se basant sur les présentations de la « XV International Conference on High Energy Physics (Rochester conference) » qui a eu lieu en 1970 à Kiev. Par l’élaboration d’un langage propre à lui-même, le réalisateur Valery Pidpalyi traduit les mouvements invisibles de la matière et des particules vers le cinématographe. Le filme donne la parole au prix Noble Chen-Ning Franklin Yang, Prof. Victor Weisskopf, Bruno Zumino, Nikolai Bogolyubov, Victor Ambartsumian, et autres. A la base, le film incluait une scène avec Andrei Sakharov, scientifique dissident soviétique, un des architectes de la bombe thermonucléaire, mais cette scène fut effacée par les services secrets.

This early work of ‘Kyiv school of scientific film’ tells about the achievements of modern physics using the materials of the XV International Conference on High Energy Physics (Rochester conference) held in 1970 in Kyiv. Elaborating his own visual language, Valery Pidpalyi translates hidden motion of the microworld, structure of matter and functioning of elementary parts into a film narrative. Approaching the Truth features Nobel Prize laureate Chen-Ning Franklin Yang, professors Victor Weisskopf, Bruno Zumino, Nikolai Bogolyubov, Victor Ambartsumian and others. Initially, the film included a footage participating Andrei Sakharov, Soviet dissident scientist, one of the architects of thermonuclear weapon, which was deleted by secret service.

L’exposition “Kinotron” présente un historique des films expérimentaux de la «Kyiv School of Scientific Film», qui a émergé dans les années 1960. Felix Sobolev, porteur de ce mouvement, fut le premier réalisateur à présenter des films scientifiques qui soient à la fois accessibles au grand public, mais présentant aussi un contenu hautement artistique et scientifique.
